How I Make a Ukulele Lesson (3 Days in 5 Minutes)
Ever wondered how much work goes into making a ukulele lesson? In this post, I want to share something a little different — a fun 5-minute behind-the-scenes video that shows the entire 3-day process of creating my latest tutorial: Something – Beatles Ukulele Chord Melody.
From arranging and writing, to recording, editing, and finally posting, this timelapse captures it all. It’s almost like an ASMR video — calming, satisfying, and hopefully inspiring if you’ve ever thought about creating or sharing your own music online.
How Long Does It Take to Make a Ukulele Lesson?
On average, one of my full course lessons (around 45 minutes long) takes me about three solid days to create. That includes arranging the music, practicing, recording, editing, and putting it all together for YouTube and my courses.
It’s definitely hard work — but I absolutely love the process. Every lesson feels like its own little project, and the result is something I get to share with students all around the world.
My Ukulele Video Setup (Gear List)
For those curious about the tech side of things, here’s the setup I use for recording. None of this is sponsored — just what works for me.
Computers: iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone 14 & iPad
Webcams: Logitech MX Brio Ultra HD 4, Logitech C920 HD Pro, iMac FaceTime Cam
Mic: Snowball Blue Ice USB mic
Software: Sibelius Ultimate, Ecamm Live, Adobe Photoshop & Acrobat, iMovie, Video Up
Ukuleles: Kamaka Ohta San concert, Moore Bettah tenor
Books on my desk: The Beatles Anthology & Revolution In The Head by Ian MacDonald
Tuner: D’Addario
If you’re just starting out, you don’t need all of this. A good webcam, a microphone, and some basic video editing software can take you a long way.

Here’s the video itself — watch as three days of arranging, recording, and editing are squeezed into just five minutes:
