amplification

first point I don't yet own a uke with a pick up.

I've now joined a local uke club and I am mostly keeping up.

It depends on strum pattern and what's being sung.

Sometimes concentration only stretches to one or the other. Alongside a block of ''intermediate'' lessons. Again I seem to be holding my own.

Nobody plays amped up , so that's fine.

They club does go out and about to venues to entertain, residential homes, local fetes and such like. When they do I think they generally rely on a microphone set up to amplify the group rather than any individual player.

A baby step would be to attach a piezio transducer pickup to your soundboard. It doesn't require any drilling or interior wiring to your instrument. You'd still need an amplifier-speaker to process the signal.

Chord Melody

Hi Matt -

After trying for ages to try to figure out Chord Melody on my own, I suddenly became sensible and went to basics on your course !!

I enjoyed your explanation of “Twinkle, Twinkle …” and reached a good level of understanding but when I printed out your music sheet, I noticed a slight difference between the pdfs.

On the hand-written ones you guided us toward playing the open notes on the GCEA voicing.

But the printed music sheet directed me to play the fretted G note on the E string rather than the open G.

I understand both are the same, but why the change ?

is the fretted note for a low G tuning . the open G would then be incorrect

Hi G or Low G for Fender Acoustic Electric Ukulele

Hi, I had just acquired a Fender Dhani Harrison Signature Acoustic electric Tenor Ukulele and wonder if I could change the strings to hi G. The seller was not able to tell me if it was equipped with a low G or hi G strings. Need hep. Thanks.

Hi Jenny, my favourite strings at the moment are D'Addario Flurocarbons - high G. They have a nice warmth to them and are quite gentle on the fingers.

Zoom lessons.

Hello, apologies first of all, I wasn't sure where the best place was to stick this. Anyway..

I've finished the beginners course and feel like I'm making progress but also feel like I'd benefit from a few 1 to 1 lessons.

I live in Nottingham but there really doesn't seem to be much in the way of face to face ukulele teachers here (and the nearest ukegroup is a fair distance for a none driver). So looks like zoom lessons would be the way to go but I'm a little hesitant about it so wondered if anyone here could recommend a teacher? There are of course quite a few onlinebut a solid recommendation for a good one (with space for teaching hopefully) would be most welcome!

They don't have be uk based, though that be better in terms of time of day etc.

I think Rachel Webley from Ukulele Wales is teaching online. She is a retired teacher. She uses good progression teaching and has a fun teaching style.
